“Pantry Plus” 2020
“For I was hungry and you fed me, thirsty and you gave me drink…”
During Lent, through the “Pantry Plus” campaign, St. Mark’s makes an intentional response to Jesus’ call in the Gospel of Matthew. Pantry Plus funds support a vital outreach ministry of our parish.
Under the direction of Paul Howell, St. Mark’s provides food for hungry children, adults, students and families in our community through the church and satellite food pantries. The Episcopal Health Foundation identified the north end of Beaumont as a “food desert” and St. Mark’s responded with the satellite pantry. In 2019, through both pantry operations groceries were provided to over 300 families per month, on average. In addition, over 4,000 snack packs were distributed to Lamar University students in 2019, during the 7th year of this activity.
All of us, adults, teens, and children, are asked to help these important efforts through the “Pantry Plus” campaign by picking up a white collection box beginning Sunday, February 23. As you are nourished each day throughout this Lenten season, be mindful of those who are in need of food by praying and thoughtfully providing a donation in the box. And then, please return the box to church on the Feast of St. Mark, Sunday, April 26th to be received and blessed to further this important ministry.
