Lent at St. Mark’s 2020

The prayer book reminds us that the liturgical season of Lent (Ash Wednesday to the Saturday before Palm Sunday) began with the first Christians as a time of preparation for Holy Week and Easter marked by penitence, fasting, self-examination, prayer, self-denial and meditating on God’s holy Word.

St. Mark’s will offer several opportunities to enhance and encourage your spiritual preparation for Holy Week and Easter, including…

Pantry Plus Boxes: These white “mite boxes” encourage daily alms giving and self-denial during Lent. The funds collected in the Pantry Plus Boxes will support the Friday morning Food Pantry at St. Mark’s. Pick up your box at church and return it the Sunday after Easter. Read a message from our Pantry Plus Box coordinator here.

Worship during Lent: Our worship during Lent – music, our vestments, our communion vessels – is marked by simplicity. The liturgical color for the season is violet which represents mourning (foreshadowing Jesus’ passion and crucifixion) AND royalty (anticipating Jesus’ triumphal Easter resurrection).

“Living Well through Lent”: We continue to provide – FREE OF CHARGE – Living Compass devotionals during Lent as an aid in self-examination and spiritual growth. Take one of these helpful booklets for yourself and a friend while supplies last!

Women’s Retreat: Bishop Kai (Kay) Ryan, the newest suffragen bishop in the Episcopal Diocese of Texas, will be our annual women’s retreat speaker on Saturday, March 21st at St. Mark’s. This retreat is open to ALL WOMEN IN THE GOLDEN TRIANGLE AND BEYOND.

The Discovery Class: This class prepares adults for official membership at St. Mark’s and in The Epicopal Church. (Click here for more details).
