stmarks_featured_defaultWe have our annual Parish Meeting coming up this Sunday, January 25th following the 8am service (starting about 9am). We will be electing five new vestry members. All vestry members are voted on by the congregation for a term of three years.

Sheri Baden

I have been a member of St. Mark’s since 1959.  I taught Sunday School for 12 years.  I have been teaching Kindergarten at All Saints Episcopal School for 41 years.  I was Den Mother for All Saints’ Boy Scouts for 9 years.  I have served at the Chili Supper many years and serve as an usher anytime an usher is needed.  I feel a very strong dedication to St. Mark’s.  We have a wonderful church family and I look forward to service our church anyway I can.  I have also served a term on the Vestry.

My second job is with B.P.D.  I am a member of the Citizen’s Police Alumni where I serve as treasurer and a member of Citizen’s in Action where I write handicap parking tickets.

Rebecca Boone

Rebecca Boone moved from Mobile, AL, to Beaumont in 2002 with her husband, Chris, and two daughters, Lucy and Helen. Teaching history at Lamar University, she was introduced to St. Marks by Howell Gwin. She has spent the last ten years teaching children’s Sunday school and helping out with the Chili Supper. She served as the ECW’s scholarship chair for two years, and has been serving as Lay Eucharistic Visitor for four years. Last year she began working in the Abbey Shop. Rebecca loves her St. Mark’s church home and is thankful for the opportunity it has given her and her family to grow in faith and service to God, the congregation, and the community.

Honour Harry

St. Mark’s has always been a part of Honour Harry’s life and the members of the church have been her friends, teachers, and extended family. Honour has served as a Sunday School  and  Vacation Bible School teacher. She currently is a member of Daughters of the King and serves as an Acolyte and Lay Eucharistic Minister. With the support provided by scholarships from St. Mark’s, Honour was able to study abroad in Italy and graduate from Lamar University as a Summa Cum Laude with Honors with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts. Honour attained her 5th degree black belt at 17 after teaching martial arts for 12 years with a special emphasis on instructing children and adults with disabilities. Since St. Mark’s has provided so many life experiences, Honour welcomes the opportunity to give back.

Ross Jones

Ross Jones is a former vestry member and a member of St. Mark’s Church since 1999. He presently serves on the rector search committee for the church. Ross is an attorney in the Beaumont office of the nationwide law firm Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith. He has been a partner in the firm since 2005. As part of his professional career, Ross is a member of the Texas Bar Association, the Jefferson County Bar Association and a former member of the Nueces County Bar Association. Ross has also been a member of the Texas Association of Defense Counsel, the Defense Research Institute and the College of the State Bar of Texas. Locally, Ross has served in as a member and on the Board of Directors of the Jefferson County Young Lawyer’s Association and as an officer in the Jefferson County Bar Association. He is a frequent contributor to the Texas Pro Bono Association and has provided legal services free of charge to the residents of Southeast Texas since 1996. In the local community, Ross also serves as President of the West Oaks Homeowner’s Association and has been a member of the Beaumont YMBL and the Beaumont Aggie Club.

Ross is a product of Bryan High School, but is most proud of his college degree from Texas A&M University. He graduated from South Texas College of Law in 1995 and has been a resident of Jefferson County ever since. Ross married Beaumont native and life-long St. Mark’s member Peyton Cole in February of 2000. He is raising his daughter Raine in the church, where she serves as an acolyte and a member of the junior choir. Raine also completed confirmation this past year. Ross has taught Sunday school at St. Mark’s, has cooked for breakfast for the congregation and special events, has been actively involved in Chili Supper for the past decade and has served one three year term on the St. Mark’s Vestry. Ross believes that God has led him to St. Mark’s and will lead him to whatever good works are in His will.

John McAtee

John McAtee is a cradle Episcopalian and lifelong member of St. Mark’s.  He is married to Kimberly and they have two daughters, Jane Ellen and Katherine.  John has been an active member of St. Mark’s over the years.  He has served as a Monk, a member of the Prayer Team, in the St. Mark’s Pantry as well as the Chili Supper.

Eddie Mendoza

Ginny and I have been married for 28 years.  We have a wonderful and beautiful 15 year old daughter, Analia, who serves as an Acolyte.  We joined St. Mark’s in 2007.  I was received into the Episcopal church in 1986 in the Diocese of Texas.

I have served on the vestry at Christ Episcopal Church in Leander, Texas and St. Luke’s on the Lake in Austin, Texas.  As a prior vestry member, I am aware of the responsibilities for the business affairs of the parish and to be a representative of the congregation in every area of decision-making.  I believe I am a spiritual leader that is committed to building up the Body of Christ so that I can be an effective instrument of mission and ministry in the world.

In serving this ministry I will do it well and constructively for the glory of God and the benefit of God’s people.

I hold a Master of Arts degree in Counseling from the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest Class 05, Austin Texas and a Bachelor of Social Work from UT-Pan American University 1980, Edinburg, Texas

I have worked in the field of Criminal Justice for over 34 years.

Gerald Richardson

I was raised in Beaumont as a member of St. Mark’s, and rejoined upon my return to Beaumont in 1984 after having lived away for some years. Since then I have served in various capacities including previous terms on the Vestry during which I was once Junior Warden and twice Senior Warden. Over the years I have been a delegate to Diocesan Council several times, have taught Confirmation classes, have been a Lay Reader for almost 30 years, have served on two Search committees and participated in numerous other programs and activities. Currently I am on the Board of the St. Mark’s Foundation.

In the community I have been active in the brokerage, management and development of commercial real estate for many years. I currently serve on the Board of the Southeast Texas Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse and have actively participated in many other community efforts.

Patricia Snyder

I started my career as a part time math teacher at All Saints for one year.  From there I moved to Kelly High School where I worked for 35 years as a math teacher and department chairman.

I grew up at St. Mark’s and was a member of the Youth Group.  After college, I moved back to Beaumont in 1972 when my father became ill.  From that time on, I have been an active member of St. Mark’s.  For many years I taught Sunday school, was the coordinator of the 5th and 6th grade class, and a sponsor of the Youth Group.  I have been a member of the Altar Guild, served on the vestry, served on the All Saints School Board, worked on the Every Member Canvas, and the Chili Supper.  At present I am the Treasurer of The Treasure House which also makes me an officer of the ECW, and this year I was the Chairman of the Cookie Brigade for the Chili Supper.

St. Mark’s has been a major source of strength and support for me in good times and bad all through my life.  I would be honored to serve on the Vestry especially during this important time in the life of our parish.

There will be an opportunity to nominate candidates from the floor at the Parish Meeting this Sunday. All St. Mark’s communicants in good standing who are 16 and up are eligible to vote. You may contact the office this week to find out details on how to vote absentee if you cannot make it to the Parish Meeting by calling 409-832-3405.
