St. Mark's Choir

Soli Deo Gloria! (To God alone be the glory!)

Adult Choir
Our Adult Choir at present has an active membership of 30 singers, including 25 who volunteer and 5 students from Lamar University who are paid.  When home from college, John Cloys and Billie Harland augment the choir and on special occasions sing solos as well. In addition to singing the 10:15 a.m. services, the Choir sings Ash Wednesday, Holy Week Services on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, as well as an Easter Vigil and two services on Easter Day.  The early service on Christmas Eve is enhanced by members from the Adult Choir, and the full Choir sings the late service, with music beginning thirty minutes before the service proper. The Choir always sings Evensong on All Saints Sunday, in addition to numerous memorial services and funerals throughout the year.

The Adult Choir is grateful for our outstanding Assistant Organist and Director, Marcia Perrine, a superb organist and conductor, and for our invaluable librarian, Ruth Aubey, who volunteers many hours of time to keep our music accesible and in order.

Handbell Choir
In addition to our Adult Choir, St. Mark's is fortunate to have a very talented Handbell Choir which plays for the 10:15 a.m. service at various times throughout the year.

Youth Choir
Our Children's and Youth Choir are under the direction of Nolan Thornal.

2006 saw another first in relation to our Aeolian-Skinner Organ.  An endowment was began for the organ.  The Jerome Wells Fund at the St. Mark's Foundation is "a seed planted" which hopefully will continue to grow and be "nourished" by other members of this Parish.

St. Mark's Organ: Rave Reviews from Two National Publications.

The CD recorded on our organ by organist Lorenz Maycher received rave reviews this year in two national music publications, namely THE AMERICAN ORGANIST and The Journal of the ASSOCIATION OF ANGLICAN MUSICIANS.  THE AMERICAN ORGANIST states that our organ, Opus 1391, "is a significant milestone in the history of American organbuilding...Opus 1391 does it all, and Maycher sees to it that it does it flawlessly...Highest possible recommendation."
